The new logo and slogan of Vietnam’s tourism

A report on Dan Tri quoted Nguyen Van Tuan, chief of VNAT, as saying that the new logo and slogan  of Vietnam’s tourism are the successors to the current ones – “Vietnam – The hidden Charm” with a blooming lotus.

Vietnam’s tourism will be promoted with the slogan “Vietnam – Timeless Charm” and the logo of a lotus in full blossom between 2012 and 2015, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) announced Tuesday. A report on Dan Tri quoted Nguyen Van Tuan, chief of VNAT, as saying that the new logo and slogan are the successors to the current ones – “Vietnam – The hidden Charm” with a blooming lotus. The new lotus has five petals in five different colors representing the country’s tourism products – sea, ecology, culture, adventure, and Vietnamese hospitality, Tuan said. “The lotus has been chosen as the main image of the logo because it represents the beautiful characters of Vietnamese people,” he said. Five is the number for vitality and multiplication in oriental philosophy, he added. Meanwhile, the slogan was chosen by local marketing strategists after the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism rejected the winners of VNAT’s contest. In December 2010, VNAT organized a contest to choose the new logo and slogan for tourism, attracting more than 400 submissions. Cowan Consultancy Co., which has an office in Vietnam and several other countries in the region, then claimed victory with the star-shaped logo and the slogan “Vietnam – A Different Orient.” However, the winning logo and slogan were soon objected to by experts, travel agency managers and journalists who argued that they failed to meet the contest’s requirement to stress the country’s ecology, culture and oceanic tourism.
